The Custom Design Process

The Initial Meeting

I meet, personally, with all of our clients to brainstorm to concept design ideas and will bring invitation and paper samples for you to review. (If you don’t live in the Twin Cites metro area, we can meet via the telephone and computer.

At this meeting, I will give you an estimate for pricing.
  • If you love the ideas and are ready to move forward with your order, a 50% non-refundable deposit is required, at this time. This secures your spot in the production schedule and allows us to begin working on your project. We cannot begin working on your project until we receive the deposit.
  • Pricing includes concepting, typography design, layout design, materials, cutting, scoring, printing and production.
  • Pricing is estimated and based on the consultation meeting discussion. If final layouts change, during the design process, the pricing will be adjusted accordingly, a new price sheet will be furnished to the client and the invoice will be adjusted. The 50% deposit received to start the order, is applied to the new total.
  • Add 6.5% Minnesota sales tax and shipping and handling to all orders.
  • We accept payment by check, Mastercard or Visa. Credit card payments may be made over the telephone. If you are mailing a check, work will begin after we receive your check. This payment is non-refundable.
  • If you would like to see samples of the designs we talk about before placing your order, we can create up to two mock ups for you to review for a fee of $250. This fee is non-refundable but will be credited towards your total bill, if you decide to move forward with the order.

The Next Steps: Mock ups & Proofing

We will create up to two mock ups for you to review, based on our conversation at the initial meeting. We will send a pdf of the design to you to review.

Swatches of the materials used to make your inviations will be mailed to you, upon request, at no additional charge. Included in the cost of your invitations is one round of design corrections (layout changes, paper changes, font changes) and two rounds of text corrections (spelling, grammar, punctuation). Additional changes may be made for a fee of $50 for each additional round. All paper mock ups are the property of DB Card Studio, unless purchased for a fee of $50. All designs and design ideas remain the property of DB Card Studio.

We can create a paper mock up of your invitation, for an additional fee. $25 for a color laser proof or $50 for a paper mock up. This will be mailed to you.

Or, I am happy to meet with you to go over the paper proof in person at my Lakeville, Minnesota location. A $60 fee will be charged to your account for additional meetings.

Production, Final Approval & Payment

Once you sign off on the final approval form, we will send the layout file to the printer and order all of the materials needed to produce your invitations. The balance of your invoice is due, at this time. Printing and production will not begin until we receive this payment. If you are paying by check, production will begin after we receive your check.

We will assemble the invitations or pack them up into Make-It-Yourself Kits and deliver them to you. Make-It-Yourself Kits include one assembled invitation.

Coordinating Additional Pieces

Additional pieces, such as thank you notes, menus, place cards, and programs are easy to add once we establish the theme for your invitations. Pricing will be established and furnished to you for each piece, as we work through the design process for your stationery suite.
